The Day I Got Kicked Out of Class: A College Story

My college life wasn’t exactly what I had imagined. In fact, my friend and I became infamous for never attending classes. We were the kind of students whose professors barely knew what we looked like. By some semesters, teachers didn’t even recognize us.

The 7th Semester Shock

One day in my 7th semester, I finally decided to attend class. It was a big moment for me, as it had been ages since I stepped foot in the lecture hall. This was a class taught by the Head of the Department (HOD), no less. I was quietly talking to a classmate when suddenly, the HOD noticed me.

Without hesitation, he said, "You! Leave the class!"

I was embarrassed, but more than that, I was angry. So, instead of just walking out of the classroom, I decided to walk all the way home—on foot.

The Long Walk

Our college was located on the busy Haridwar-Delhi highway, near the Badarwad industrial area, and I lived in Khanna Nagar. It was a long walk, but I didn’t care. Each step gave me time to think about how I ended up here—feeling disconnected from my college life.

On the way, I stopped by the local theka (Batlee water shop ☺) and bought a small bottle of precious Batlee Water. I didn’t have much money, so I got just a quarter.

Sharing the Frustration

When I finally reached home, I told my roommate, another guy just like me who barely attended college, what had happened. We both laughed about it but deep down, we knew it wasn’t funny.

That night, we decided to drink and talk about how things used to be. We even borrowed money from friends to buy a full bottle of Batlee Water. As we drank, we looked back at how much things had changed.

From Top Students to Slackers

In school, we were top students with great AIR (All India Rank) scores. We studied hard and had dreams of getting into a prestigious engineering college. But after we got in, something changed.

The college wasn’t what we expected, and we slowly lost interest. The excitement was gone, and instead, we felt frustrated.

That night, as we drank, we talked about how far we’d drifted from our dreams. We weren’t the same motivated students we used to be.

Looking Forward

By the time the night ended, we realized we needed to change. We couldn’t keep going like this forever. That night of drinking wasn’t just about frustration; it was also about realizing we needed to get back on track.

But that’s a story for another time…
